If you want to market your book online, you absolutely need to know about D’Vorah Lansky. D’Vorah has made Internet book marketing her focus and specialty and has drawn together an impressive array of book marketing experts who share tips, advice, and wisdom.

Listen to the audio below to hear an interview I did recently with D’Vorah about her latest work, Book Marketing Made Easy

Earlier this year I did a series of videos on strategies to win book award contests that are based on votes via the Internet.

I entered my book 31 Days to Greeting Card Marketing Mastery in the Small Biz Trends Book Awards 2010 contest last December. Because my entry was late in the game, I pulled out all stops to contact people and gather votes. The five videos below summarize the strategies I used in the competition. They clearly paid off, because even though I was a late entry, 31 Days to Greeting Card Marketing Mastery was the 8th overall vote winner and #3 in the Marketing category, garnering two awards.

During the week that my book was in the voting I was extremely active soliciting votes. This first video focuses on what I did to contact people from my past.

I focused on four type of folks:

Family and friends

Former employers

My current email list (which goes back about 12 years)

My high school reunion organizer.

This next video focuses on what I did to promote the contest to current contacts.

Whenever someone voted and emailed, Tweeted, or Facebooked me about it, I tried to thank them promptly.

Mentioned it to people at several live networking events I attended

Asked family and friends, especially those with big networks

Asked our local Chamber of Commerce for support.

Asked for help from two people who have big regional public relations firms, and two others with SEO firms.

The third video focuses on how I used social media to promote the book and the contest.

Posted to Facebook and Twitter often and LinkedIn some.

Blogged about it and updated the post every couple of days.

Whenever someone voted and emailed Tweeted, or Facebooked me about it, I tried to thank them promptly.

Made a YouTube video asking for votes and put it on Facebook and in Blog.

I belong to two large NING groups, I asked them for support.

Wrote to the social media editor of our local newspaper.

The final day of voting was on my birthday so every one of the 100s of people who sent me birthday greetings via email or Facebook I thanked them right off and asked them to vote with an easy link.

Blogging and soc med and video follow up pieces

This fourth video focuses on how I used video to get support.

First I made a YouTube video asking for votes for the book and that was posted on my YouTube Channel.

I used the YouTube video link to post on Facebook and on my blog.

The big secret – I got my grandchildren to make videos asking people to “Please vote for my grandpa’s book”.

I also posted video thank you clips.

This final video focuses on how I plan to Leverage the Award.

Why I Entered the Book Awards Voting and Promoted It Heavily – Indirect Benefits

This solidifies my already somewhat established reputation as someone who knows how to promote via social media

It gave me a chance to give friends and contacts an easy way to help me, and then reasons to get in touch to thank them

It established some cred with folks in the same and related fields

It gives me something to write/speak about and another way to help people and maybe coach/consult/train people on how to promote their stuff

I could write a book about mobilizing your peeps to promote your book (or whatever) via online voting awards contests.

Our three adult children, who pretty much stay away from what we do, all got involved, as did our grandchildren – so that’s a huge win.

How I plan to follow up to make the most of winning the book voting award.

Blogging and soc med and video follow up pieces

Because we’re (to a small degree, by default) book coaches, this will bring even more people to us (already turned up two) who want to discuss writing books themselves.

Traditional-ish PR stuff – press release to college alumni pub, local print pubs

Will rent www.PleaseVoteforMyBook.com on a very select basis for short terms.

Winning becomes part of my resume and intro. Just like my 1989 Computer Press Award for Best Hardware Review.

Tip #6 Copy Ducks

If you’re like me, you probably don’t look forward to your dentist appointments. However, we all know the importance of being responsible for our dental health, so we make and keep those appointments. There is an absolutely wonderful feature about my current dentist’s office that helps me escape into a world of play, and that’s the duck pond, which patients can view directly through a wall size window right at the base of the dental chair.

As I watch the ducks interact with abandon, I realize they have a lot to teach us about the art of play. First of all, they’re uninhibited in their natural environment and are continuously sliding, jumping, chasing, gliding, diving, preening, and eating.

Imagine if, in your work day, you showed as much non-stop energy and enthusiasm in your work environment! Do you slide into your work space with boundless excitement, jump for joy when you have a win, chase your goals, glide through meetings with poise and professionalism, dive for that big account, preen before a meeting with an important client, and eat well and with others who are supportive of your vision and mission? If not, maybe it’s time you took some lessons from the ducks in your nearest duck pond!

And by the way, I applaud my dentist for locating his practice on a duck pond where he and his staff obviously appreciate the duck playground on a daily basis and transfer some of that lighthearted attitude to their important work and client interactions.

We chose this topic this week because SendOutCards (we’re independent distributors) just announced a new BIG card feature that’s full of possibilities for helping our clients live more extraordinary lives.

You have to see the SendOutCards announcement page to get the idea! Here’s the link.

Bruce’s video testimonial is at the top of the right column on the SendOutCards announcement Web page. He loves the spotlight!

We thought it would be fun to share some ideas on how to use the BIG cards for both personal and business occasions to build more positive relationships and celebrate peoples’ lives in a BIG way – because we all deserve it!

Personal

1. One of the first reasons to use BIG cards for personal occasions is to help those with failing eyesight. Marge’s father and Bruce’s mother were both challenged with poor eyesight and they would have loved receiving BIG cards with big fonts and big photos that they could see without straining or having to use their special readers or glasses. It’s a very thoughtful way to be helpful in a big way!

2. BIG cards are useful when you want to express a positive emotion in a BIG way. If you want some to feel your love, congratulations, thank you, welcome, miss you, apology, encouragement, or appreciation message in a BIG way, then be sure to send a BIG card!

3. If you’re manifesting your ideal life, then you most likely have a vision board. We hope you’re thinking BIG! Take a photo of your vision board and send yourself a BIG card so you can carry your BIG dreams (and the positive feelings they evoke) with you wherever you go.

4. Any BIG occasion warrants a BIG card. Use your special photos from a wedding, baptism, graduation, reunion, or birthday party to capture and share memories in a BIG way!

5. Make someone feel really special and important with a BIG card. Surprise a small child or someone who goes out of their way to give you excellent service with a BIG card to make them feel noticed in a BIG way.

6. Showcase a special creation, such as a photo, piece of artwork, poem, or meal with a BIG card to show off your talents or those of another.

7. Keep memories alive in a BIG way from a special vacation or trip.

8. Express yourself with a signature style and become known for sending BIG cards.

9. Life is full of big announcements that deserve BIG cards, such as a new home, an engagement, a new job or promotion, or a new baby.

10. Give yourself a big pat on the back with a BIG card listing all the things you love about yourself. There’s a great way to boost your self-esteem.

Business

1. When your business launches a new product or service, send a BIG announcement card to your best clients.

2. Use BIG cards to display special menus or lists of services at your place of business.

3. Send a BIG welcome a new employee or colleague with a special BIG card.

4. When someone you work with goes the extra mile, send a BIG recognition card for him or her to proudly display.

5. Offer a BIG thank you to a special/new client or someone who has sent you a BIG referral.

6. When you hear of someone’s notable success in business, send a BIG congratulations card to signify their BIG accomplishment.

7. Take a BIG card to a networking event or a coffee shop for a conversation opener.

8. When you’re prospecting, recruiting, or hiring, send a BIG Most Wanted card to a prospective client.

9. If you’re applying for a job or a freelance contract, send a BIG card with all your selling points so your recipients can get to know you in a BIG way.

10. Send someone in your business network a BIG, unexpected card just because you want to celebrate their life.

Our new service could be the BIG reason for you to open your SendOutCards account this month. We’re ready to help you get started. Just follow this link here to sign up today!

When I submitted my book, 31 Days to Greeting Card Marketing Mastery to for the Small Business Trends Book Awards 2010 the contest had already been running for two weeks and had one week to go. When the voting was finished at midnight December 15, 2010 my book finished in 8th place overall (of 110 entries) and in 3rd place in the Marketing category, which resulted in two awards, Contest Winner (for the overall top 10) and Top Book in Marketing (for the top three in that category).

During the week that my book was in the voting I was extremely active soliciting votes. This post focuses on how I used social media to promote the book and the contest.

Blogging and soc med and video follow up pieces

by Marge Brown

Re-purposing Information Products

For the last five years, we’ve been aware of the growing tendency for experts in all size businesses to create information products and to learn how to re-purpose the same content in various media formats to create multiple profit streams. Information marketing experts make themselves and their expertise well known by marketing their information products through multiple channels. It’s one thing to study this phenomenon; it’s quite another to jump into the publishing and marketing arenas to learn how to best capture your expertise, package it, repackage it, market it, and ultimately sell it to your prospects and clients in a well-defined market niche.

In the past two years we jumped into the publishing and marketing arenas with our own information products and, as a result of our trial and error, we’ve learned a lot. We haven’t learned all we need to know on this topic, and probably never will, but we want to share an example of how we’re re-purposing information products in our own business to coach, inspire, and cajole our clients into launching their own information product profit center as soon as possible.

Examples of Multimedia Information Products

The types of information products you can create to reflect your expertise include:

books,

ebooks,

audio recordings,

special reports,

video clips,

email series,

blog posts,

ezine articles,

teleseminars,

social media pages and links,

speeches,

Web pages and even

custom greeting cards!

Multimedia is the key word going forward in the creation of information products; your audience now expects text, graphics, audio, photos, video, and sound effects to keep them entertained and engaged in receiving your expert content.

Who Has Information Products?

Anyone can have information products. Even if you aren’t a good writer, you can hire a freelancer to help you create your products (Check out www.elance.com).

Why Have Information Products?

When you have created a publication with you name as the author, you’re immediately labeled an expert, whether you feel you are or whether you truly qualify as one or not. Being known as an expert immediately sets you apart from others in your field.

You’ll grow through the process of creating information products, which will automatically increase your expertise!

Every information product you publish can contain links to every other publication in your information product empire.

Why Re-purpose Your Information Products?

Here are just a few reasons:

You can deliver the same expert content in a variety of ways to reach various audiences.

Bruce and Marge Live! – How We Plan to Repurpose Our Content

We thought we’d use our weekly Bruce and Marge Live! content as an example of how we are repurposing our content so you can use it as a model for your own project.

Each week we write an article for our ezine.

We also post the article on our blog.

We post links to our ezine on social media.

We send custom greeting cards to live participants on our Bruce and Marge Live! calls thanking them for calling in and summarizing some of the key points of the teleseminar.

We use the article as the basis for our weekly Bruce and Marge Live! teleseminar.

We post the audio recordings from all Brue and Marge Live! teleseminars on our Bruce and Marge Live! Web page.

We often send a specific audio recording to a client or prospect to support our coaching on a particular topic.

We’re organizing our Bruce and Marge Live! content into several different ebooks.

We’re submitting our ezine articles to an Internet article marketing service, www.ezinearticles.com.

We’re publishing our Bruce and Marge Live! content in the Amazon Kindle library to sell it internationally.

Finally, we have plans to publish the Best of Bruce and Marge Live! in a book.

We’ve only just started to brainstorm on all the ways we can re-purpose and market our weekly coaching content. Hopefully you have more ideas for re-purposing your own information content and growing your own expertise with your market niche.

This post focuses on what I did to promote the contest to current contacts.

Personal Accountability – Taking Charge of Your Life.

Personal accountability means being responsible for every aspect of your life. The word “responsible” means dependable, reliable, being answerable, being accountable. You’re in charge of your life, showing up, front and center.

What it doesn’t mean is delegating the responsibility for your life and your outcomes to anyone else. It doesn’t mean making excuses, having low expectations, having a victim mentality. We’ll cover all of these pitfalls and others for avoiding personal responsibility.

The benefits of taking charge of your life include increased confidence, self-respect, personal power, and positive results.

The downside of not taking charge of your life includes lower self-esteem, struggle, lack of positive results, feeling stuck, and decreased personal power.

So let’s look at ten aspects of personal accountability.

1.	Be a victor, not a victim
A victim says or thinks, “Well, that’s just the way I am,” or “That’s the way things always go for me,” or “I can never be as (attribute) as (name).”, or “I always attract losers.” All of these types of statements and thoughts reflect the deep subconscious programs that run your life. When you say and think such types of statements you’re getting clues as to the subconscious programs that determine the outcomes in your life. You always have the choice to apply your personal power to reprogram yourself and transform your victim mentality to a victor mentality. The way to do that is to discard your old interpretations of outcomes you’ve experienced to date, decide what new outcomes you desire, and then crank up the emotional involvement around your new desires. You have to do something different to become a victor.

2.	Assume authority and accountability
Sometimes people want to be “in charge” but they don’t really want to be accountable for the results. It’s easy to deceive yourself into thinking that you have assumed authority for your life, when in fact, you haven’t owned all your outcomes 100%. You’re posturing, but not being honest with yourself.

3.	Release your story
Your story is what you tell people to embellish the meaning around the facts of a situation. The more you become emotionally attached to your story, the more difficult it is to interpret facts objectively and move out of your rut. Here’s a great example. A year after Princess Diana died, Prince Charles wanted the public to accept his long-time love, Camilla Parker-Bowles. His story up to that point was that the Queen, the Church of England, and the public sentiment were set against him as a divorced royal and her as his divorced mistress. He hired a spin doctor to help him break through his emotional attachment to his story. The objective facts were that British society was more accepting of divorce than the Queen or the Church of England. With the help of his spin doctor, he created a new story around the fact that the British public was more than ready to accept him and Camilla as a couple, which indeed turned out to be the case. Even the Queen eventually accepted his new story and broke down her generational belief system to wish Charles and Camilla well on their wedding day.

4.	Expect the Best – Grow Your Belief
There is always room to grow your belief that good things are coming to you. You don’t get what you say you want, you get what you expect. Make sure your expectations are a match for the results you want in your life. The way to test that is to look at your results to date; if they are not a match for your desires, then focus on strengthening your belief.

5.	Match your energy to your desires
Making excuses is a complete waste of energy. Instead, put yourself in new situations and create new emotional experiences in line with your desires. Making excuses can be an insidious personaliy trait. One way to be more aware of your tendency to make excuses is to wear an elastic band around your wrist for one week and snap it every time you hear yourself making an excuse.

6.	It’s all in how you look at things
Most of us wear blinders and don’t go through life with a 360 degree view of most situations. If you make an effort to broaden your view, you’ll find it’s a real eye-opener! Many times we need input from trusted family or friends to help us see all aspects of a situation. Asking for this type of assistance can empower you to adopt a wider perspective and strengthen your willingness to accept responsibility for your life. Victims can’t see options and solutions that are often within their reach. Take the broad view with the help of others until you’ve mastered this skill on your own.

7.	Be good to your word
There was a time before we employed armies of lawyers when a person’s word was their bond and it was sealed with a handshake. Do you keep your word? If you say you’re going to do something do you do it? If you can’t keep your word, do you take the situation seriously and communicate ahead of time? Knowing you’re a person who is good to their word will escalate your self-respect and tighten your important relationships, which are key to living a fulfilled life.

8.	Take responsibility for all aspects of your life
It’s all or nothing when it comes to personal accountability. For example, you could say that you’re not at your ideal weight because, while you exercise regularly, your spouse cooks fattening meals. If you don’t want to eat fattening meals, then take responsibility to work with your spouse to change that aspect of your life.

9.	Chose
Replace all should’s, would’s, and could’s in your life with choices. You are always at choice and when you think or state that you chose or don’t chose to do something, then you immediately feel more empowered. Words have a lot of power, and the word, Choice, is one of the most powerful word you can adopt to increase your personal accountability.

10.	Choices = Reality
Understand and accept that everything you have in your life to date is a result of your past choices – there is no one to blame or to credit but yourself. You have the power to change your reality through new choices. Taking responsibility for your past and future choices is the only way to take charge of your life. Chose what you desire, believe it’s possible for you, and then increase your emotional involvement around your new belief!

10 Strategies for Staying With Your Workout Routine

Late January to mid February is about the time when most good-intentioned folks drop out of their New Year’s workout routine. In fact many regular gym members count on the January crush to subside so they can get back to “normal” at the gym.

If you want to live an extraordinary life, then you need to make exercise a part of your daily habits. It’s so important to your well-being that you will want to develop strategies for working out when you travel or have a break in your normal routine.

How about just not letting your self be a 2011 drop-out? What can you do today to keep strengthening your work out habit? Here are 10 quick tips:

Get a Buddy – When you have to be accountable to someone else, it doubles your chances of showing up for your workout. Join a walking group, pick up a fellow gym member for your daily workout, join an online workout forum, or arrange to go out for coffee with a buddy after your workout. Not only will having a buddy keep you more engaged in your workout commitment, but you’ll have a lot more fun in the process!

Change it Up – Your body will be happier if you alter your workouts and you’ll be less bored if you challenge yourself with new and different workout routines. If you let your workouts run on autopilot, you’ll be more likely to quit. So walk today and swim tomorrow or do a home workout today and go to the gym tomorrow. Mix it up to stay alert and work different muscles each day.

Make Incremental Advancements – One sure way to quit your workout routine is to set goals that are too high, such as length of your workout, desired weight loss, or level of challenge. If you haven’t been working out, be sure to check with your doctor to set reasonable goals initially and then make incremental increases in your goals once you have mastered each step.

Record and Measure – You can’t improve what you don’t record and measure, so be sure to keep a daily log of your workout details. This is a great way to feel good about your dedication and progress on those days when you really have to force yourself to work out (and you will definitely have those days). Keep you log handy so entering your data each day is part of your daily workout habit.

Reward Yourself – Unless you’re working with a trainer who doles out rewards for individual accomplishments, you need to take charge of rewarding yourself for sticking with your workout regime. This is not the time to think of fattening desserts! Make of list of rewards in advance that match the spirit of taking care of yourself, with such things as new workout gear, a professional photography session, a new outfit, or home workout DVD.

Release Weight and Toxins – Work on your mental image of “dropping or releasing weight and flushing toxins” from your body when you’re working out. It’s as much a mental as a physical workout to get you the results you want.

Have the Right Gear – If you aren’t sure if you have the right style of sneakers for your primary workout routines, then please go to a reputable sports equipment store and check with their knowledgeable staff. You’ll do yourself more harm than good if you don’t have the right foot gear. After that, be sure to have well fitting work out clothes that you keep clean and always ready to go for your next workout.

Avoid Injury – There is no magic bullet for avoiding injury while working out, but there are a few common sense rules. These include: a) always warm up first; b) only enroll with a reputable gym and/or personal trainer; c) take the appropriate amount of time to recover from an injury before returning to your workout routine.

Make it a Lifetime Habit vs. a Temporary Fix – See yourself as someone who will be working out for the rest of your life. There is no temporary benefit from working out. It has to be a lifetime commitment to provide the ongoing benefits of looking, feeling and thinking better. This self-image could cause you to up level your friends to include more of those who also see themselves as working out for life. Those living an extraordinary life seek out others who are committed to doing the same.

Combine it with Improved Diet – This tip is for another article, but can’t be left out of the workout list. You’ll get more from any individual workout if you combine your effort with an improved diet. With the rising rate of obesity, there are not many among us who are not candidates for an improved diet. Learn and apply all you can in this area of self-improvement as well to boost the benefits of your daily workout routine.
